This FREE farm animal flash cards printable is a sweet, fun activity to do with your toddler or preschooler! As a homeschooling mom of four, I’m always looking for a way to engage my littlest. Maybe you are too. Maybe you’re just getting your feet wet with homeschooling and are looking for some fun activities to do with your preschooler or Kindergartener. Or maybe you just need more ideas on things to do with toddlers. (Don’t we all?)

Why I made these farm animal flash cards

Flash cards are a great way to encourage littles with speech delays or are in speech therapy. My 2 year old is finally beginning to say words more clearly, and I attribute a lot of that to reading/looking at flash cards and first word books with him.

Homesteading is my passion and homeschooling is something I feel called to do as a mama. These two lifestyles go hand in hand–in fact, around here we are regularly combining them into one! These homestead animal flash cards are just one way we can do that.

If you’re new to my blog, I hope we can be friends. It’s fun to combine these two aspects of our lives, and I love having something valuable to offer you, my readers.

If you haven’t checked it out already, I have plenty more content on homesteading and homeschooling here on the blog! I love inspiring homestead dreamers like me, as well as educating about what homeschool does and doesn’t have to look like for us as busy moms.

These free farm animal flashcards are in a printable PDF format, are aesthetically pleasing, and cover most all the animals you may find on a small farm or homestead. I wanted to include a lot of different farm animals, because the goals of each homestead are individual and unique. There are even couple of more rare or “challenging” animals to name and identify, like quail and turkey.

Why use these farm animal flash cards?

Flash cards are a great way to encourage engagement from early learners. There is just something about handheld manipulatives that grab attention and spark interest. One best bit of advice I’ve received is to use flash cards with a special theme (like these) to get young children more excited about learning language skills.

They are great to use with kindergarten kids alongside a more complete curriculum. You could use them as an addition to word walls or as control cards to match with animal facts.

For toddlers and preschoolers, farm animals generally get them pretty enamored. So these particular flash cards are a great resource that get them learning animal recognition, letter sounds, and much more. You will love the realistic and inviting drawings, as well as the clear, easy to read font.

They’re enjoyable to look at it and easy for littles to hold and use. The cards will print at just the right size for their little hands. Just print, laminate, and cut them out! No resizing needed.

Plus, they’re free. Who doesn’t love that?
